For many many years driving along the coast I've see this same view.
3 houses on a rock.
One big.
One medium.
One small.
They are battered by storms, weathered by sun, enveloped in fog, bathed with sea spray and whipped by the wind. But they stand-- like a rock.
It is one of my familiar and favorite sights, so finally I painted them.

During the Napoleonic era, French prisoners of war had to find resourceful ways to spend their long imprisonment. On the encouragement of their captors, they constructed ship models from recycled cattle bone, boxwood, whale baleen, or sometimes from more exotic materials supplied by the local citizenry, e.g., silk, gold, silver foil, ivory, tortoise shell, etc. The resulting ships were remarkable in their authenticity and today are sought after by collectors of antique ship models and Napoleonic objets d'art.

Winter thoughts of warm places.
Key West- home of the illustrious Hemingway.
Loving the independence and spirit of felines, "Papa" surrounded himself with them, plus the flowers, guava trees, and coconut palms as he wrote his manly tomes in his carriage studio. Today, protected by his will, about 60 roam his "museum", barefoot and polydactyl [extra toes], sporting names of Hollywood stars and celebrities, and sunning on the deco tiles. Oh, to be a cat.

In November, I had a "Thanks-Giving" offer to my subscibers & buyers to win a free painting from Lightcaught. This painting "NE Coast" was chosen and won by Dorothea Readhead of Carson City Nevada.

Interestingly, the largest category of paintings chosen were related to the ocean. And, a number of people chose these same paintings: "Perfect Day," "Summer Day at West Beach," "New View," and "April Rainbow."

Grownup Perfume

In high school the first perfume I bought was Jungle Gardenia in an effort to duplicate the unforgettable, heady scent of my gardenia prom corsages. But, later when I was working as a college intern I decided to pick out a perfume to match the woman I had become. It was L'Air du Temps in a beautiful Lalique bottle with a bird on top. Today when I smell the blend of gardenia, musk, rose, carnation and sandalwood it takes me back to that day when I chose my first 'grownup perfume'.
