I was new to Boston. I walked down the gray tree lined street to my apartment, went to bed, woke up the next morning and went out the door to work. The surprise that greeted me that morning is frozen in my memory– Commonwealth Avenue had exploded with pink velvety blossoms– from one end of the street to the next and the next and the next. The tree limbs had miraculously transformed during the night. A heady, sensuous fragrance perfumed the air. What a beautiful, welcoming gift from my new little city.
Now I have my own trees and a vase of Magnolias in my window brings it all back.
