Ghost Ship, Bohoy

For the novel "Ghost Ship" by Lori Townsend I did a pastel painting of a ship enveloped by ghostly mists and clouds, in an ink-dark night, on an eery rolling sea. The thriller depicts reporter Zilla Gillette who investigates the human trafficking of young girls and boys who have been abducted and carried by a vessel at sea to a hidden location.

American Home Wrecker cover, Bohoy

I used my painting, done in 2008 to symbolize the commencement of Obama's presidency, for the cover of the novel "American Home Wrecker" by Lori Townsend. 
The book is a depiction of the white supremacist underworld, extreme right-wing separatist group in America, as well as a look at domestic violence investigated by reporter Zilla Gillette.

For the cover design I ripped the art apart to simulate what the “home wreckers” in the book have attempted to do– divide America and abolish what our first African American president had accomplished and to create tumult in America.

Dizzy Gillespie 100th birthday

In celebration of the anniversary of jazz great Dizzy Gillespie’s 100th birthday, author David G. Brown shares his intimate experiences and memoirs of this magical musician in his book "Shadowing Dizzy Gillespie."

Baking a cake.

“The sun was slanting thru the crisp white curtains of the compact kitchen– a scent of wild rose from the blossoming bush outside the window was perfuming the air as the breeze blew in– but the scent of cake baking in the oven was the star. My mother was singing “la de da...” as she whipped up a 7 Minute Frosting to ice the impending cake as we all hovered and waited in anticipation to lick the beaters. The cake batter had already been licked clean earlier by we overzealous kids fighting over who would do it first. 
I  can’t recall if the cake was for a birthday, dessert, or just ‘needed’ to be made, but all of the ingredients were there: the sun, the smells, the love, the passion, the family, the adoration, and anticipation. 

Later~
The cake is done, the frosting white, fluffy, and peaked. Who can wait?  No one– when the aroma seduces your senses: your eyes, your nose, your tastebuds. My mother takes the knife and carefully slices a piece for each of us, sneaking a lick of the wayward crumbs and frosting as she goes. The sun is now in a different place, the oven is cooling, our childish patience has waned, and we are finally ready for a bite of this beautifully baked piece of magic. 

That particular piece of Mom’s magic, chemistry, and passion, is now lovingly baked in our own sunlit compact kitchen.”

It's winter.
There's snow.
Skies are gray.
But Cape Cod is calling.
With sun.
Blue skies.
Sea mist and flowers.
That ride to the Lighthouse will have to wait.
Anticipation and memories must satiate.

In November, I had a "Thanks-Giving" offer to my subscibers & buyers to win a free painting from Lightcaught. This painting "NE Coast" was chosen and won by Dorothea Readhead of Carson City Nevada.Interestingly, the largest category of paintings chosen were related to the ocean. The artists of the Daily Painters Gallery have been busy. Since September 2006, they've posted over 10,000 original paintings to their online gallery at DailyPainters.com. From June 15 to July 15, 2007, they will be attempting a new group record: 2,000 paintings in 30 days.
