Tonight's opening ceremony will do just that.
My Olympic memory: In 1984 at the LA Olympics I saw these little Mexican girls all dolled up, as was their family, ready to celebrate the obviously proud and momentous event of someone they knew representing their country.
It was a 'heart squeeze' moment that I did not forget.
