Travel memories- Portugal-Bohoy

In yesterday’s Boston Sunday Globe newsaper I was interviewed for their VIP travel section entitled “A VIP reader talks about all things travel.” Read it here: https://edition.pagesuite.com/popovers/dynamic_article_popover.aspx?artguid=0e007f99-8051-456f-bcb4-738dc692a7d2

In honor of travel (and that time of year when we think of traveling) I will be featuring my travel paintings– starting with Portugal:

Travel. Tired. Trip into bed.
Trays of bread, butter, sweets and coffee wait outside the door in the early morn. Obrigado

Pastel of Villa Real, Portugal, 2008
Original NFS [email for available print]

In Nazare a Fisherman's widow dressed in all black strolls the beach with the background of the unforgiving azure blue sea.

The Swans are back- by J. Bohoy

The swans are back.

Boston Ballet brings them.

The Opera House stage.

Feathers fly: Odette and Odile vie for the prince.

Good vs evil.

A sea of white glides on Swan Lake as my favorite Tchaikovsky music swells.

Pastel paintings done previously in 2008 to 2014. Prints available.

Hastings House- watercolor by Johanna Bohoy

"A house is not a home"as the song goes.
But this house is a home to the residents of Beverly Farms, MA. An historical community house that provides space for fun and festive public and private events.

As thanks for our using it recently to practice the waltz for the film series
“The Gilded Age,” I painted this watercolor of the "Hastings House" to hang for prosperity.

Watercolor 11x 9.

My painting "Group Hug" was just awarded "Artwork Best Representing Theme" in the Historic Beverly exhibit "Strength, Perseverance and Hope" which emphasized our pandemic experience.
The art was judged by art specialists, but also by some people from the local community– which made it even more special to me.

My other painting "Last Hug," also in the exhibit, depicted the show's theme as well– almost more so, as it features a good friend who truly experienced strength, perseverance and hope.

Diversitree

Just as the trees, flowers, vegetation, and animals share the earth; so do we. All colors, all countries, all creeds.

We are all ornaments on the tree of life.

Celebrate this diversitree.

Pastel, 9x12.

Honors

A thank you on 9/11
I put up this painting in April in honor of the Covid workers, but now I revised it to include the firefighters and state troopers that came to our aid when our camper van burned on our way for a Labor Day vacation.
Since today is 9/11 it's a reminder of how appreciative we are, and should be, of our 1st responders.
Prayers for them as they fight the fires in California.

The Angels Come Out

The Angels come out.
To protect, to heal, to comfort~
From all walks of life, every country, every ethnic group, all colors, all languages, all services.
Heroes with halos.
With wings.

Beach solace

Stay at home they say
You find a way
To escape home prison;
A calmer vision.
The sound of silence
A 6 foot alliance
Be brave
Savor the breaking wave.

Pastel, 10 x 8, 2008 [SOLD]

But now it's closed.

April rains

Down comes the rain.
Up go umbrellas.
From above we see:
A box of Trix,
or a carton of crayons,
or a field of flowers.
Yes–- April showers.

Birds in egg. Pollution, extinction.

I did this art in college as I was concerned about pollution, extinction, and the environment back then.
I also did my senior thesis project on the very subject.
Amazing that so many years later (too many to reveal), we are still worried about the environment-- pollution, extinction, warming, melting...
and it still continues to alter our earth.
