Travel Memory-Greece

"Island Siren" © Johanna Bohoy, 2016, Watercolor, 8x10

White Washed & Blue

Deep blue water, pale blue sky,

sunshine whites, and fuschia brights.

Drink in hand, barefoot, and free.

A siren from the sea is calling me.

"Cat's House" © Johanna Bohoy, 1990, pastel.

Cat’s House

Classical ruins.

Ancient & rare.

Tourists: “Do not touch!"

~

But the cat will.

It’s his home.

The column– his couch.

The sun– his heat.

A privileged king in his castle.

“Light Caught in Greece” ©Johanna Bohoy, 1978, Glyfada, Greece, Watercolor, 13x13

Light caught in Greece

The day is long

The sun slow to leave.

The light is caught

and the shadows wait.

The door– soon to close

and the flowers to bed.

Goodnight Greece.

Beach solace

Stay at home they say
You find a way
To escape home prison;
A calmer vision.
The sound of silence
A 6 foot alliance
Be brave
Savor the breaking wave.

Pastel, 10 x 8, 2008 [SOLD]

But now it's closed.

Ghost Ship, Bohoy

For the novel "Ghost Ship" by Lori Townsend I did a pastel painting of a ship enveloped by ghostly mists and clouds, in an ink-dark night, on an eery rolling sea. The thriller depicts reporter Zilla Gillette who investigates the human trafficking of young girls and boys who have been abducted and carried by a vessel at sea to a hidden location.

For info on the book, or to buy go to:

"Ghost Ship" pastel, 9x12, commission, $200.

Calm.
After the storms:
The beauteous blue.
The silky sea.
The ruffled edge.
The subtle sky.
The silence.
Defies it.

Pastel, 10 x 8

Manchester-by-the-Sea

Singing Beach
Manchester-by-the Sea
(location of the current movie).
Dotting the coast are the mansions.
Turn of the century symbols of wealth.
Carriages, servants, privileged summers by the sea.

Reflections of a time past.
So large– many were torn down.
Making way for some new McMansions.

Pastel painting 7.5 x 5.5, in 12 x 9 silver frame with silver mat.

Patiently waiting for Spring, Bohoy

Keep the faith.
Hats and sweaters, and jackets on hand.
Even Fido burrows in sand.
We wait... patiently,
stoically, hopefully.
For spring's coming.
Later, better than never.

(FYI- for those in other places-- in New England it's still snowing and cold.)

Pastel, 10 x 8, $125.

Closing Up the summer

This, the first day of fall
signals the closing of summer: vacation house, bathing suits, convertibles, and playthings.
It opens up autumn: a tranquil beach, crispy days, dry sun, and the approaching rainbow of leaves.
A sad good-bye
A happy welcome.

Labor Day rest

Hang loose.
Take a rest.
Do nothing.
Stare at the sky.
Swing in the breeze.
Enjoy Labor Day.
Meditate.
You deserve it.

[An older painting that fits the day.]
Pastel 5 x 7, 2007. SOLD
