Decadent Desserts, pastel Bohoy

I started this painting before going to an event at a castle in Long Island. Little did I know that it would literally come to life that weekend.
At said event, at the end of the night,  there was a room the size of half a ballroom set up with 10 tables of desserts of every kind. A table for each: cakes, pastries & tarts, puddins & things, ice creams, hot desserts, cupcakes, chocolate fountain with smores, & more & more & more, and coffee drinks. Needless to say we dug in even though it was sinful, diabetic, wasteful, and decadent and ended up prone on the bed from over-indulgence.
Groan.

Farm animal tiles, Bohoy

Handpainted 8x8 animal tiles for wall of "The Meatball Shoppe" in Faneuil Hall Marketplace, Boston.

I recently finished 35 hand painted farm animal tiles for the wall of the new "KOBS Meatball Shoppe" in the Faneuil Hall Marketplace in Boston. It was a daunting task- each animal was relatively detailed, and had to be repeated 4 times, but they're done, all installed and greeting the meatball lovers.
Detail- Turkey tile, acrylic, 8 x 8

Cuban Street, watercolor, Bohoy

A new painting done for a recent "Colors of Cuba" exhibit:
 Time had stopped.
Just like we had heard–everywhere we found ourselves in Cuba, we felt like extras on a movie set.
Besides the vintage cars, the buildings were revealing portraits of the past.

Some– beautiful Colonial architectural gems that had crumbled from time and the lack of upkeep and money.
Some– vibrant colorful structures that screamed ‘tropical.’
And others– visions of poverty.

Watercolor, 11x14, [matted with black 16x20 frame]

Cuban Cigars, pastel, Bohoy

A new painting done for a recent "Colors of Cuba" exhibit:

In Cuba the government owns everything. Even though they have free health care and fee education the people in Cuba earn a meager wage, to say the least- $17-30 US dollars a month.
Many take to the streets to make money.
Here, a woman with an humorously large cigar in her mouth hopes to earn a living by posing for tourists.
Juxtaposed to her, is a man who is just casually enjoying his cigar- one of Cuba's most prosperous industries.
Ironically a plant that looks like tobacco leaves separates them both.

Pastel, 8x10, mat with black 11x14 frame, $225.

Alvin Ailey Wade in the Water, Bohoy pastel

The first time I saw Alvin Ailey's "Revelations-Take me to the Water" I never put it out of my mind. Undulating, athletic bodies, white on white on white: ruffled dresses, a billowing 'cloud', a parasol on high; all on floating silk ribbons of 'river,' dancing to the pulsating spiritual "Wade in the Water."

This year for my birthday I needed to return to the water and see it again.

I won't wash it out of my mind.

Pastel, 16x20, unframed, $495.

Memorial Day flags

Blue skies. A mild sea. Soft breeze. Flags furled. People stroll.
Quiet thoughts of those gone.
